The Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township is wondering whether it gets any benefits from paying taxes to Washington County for municipal services.
The tribe provides all fire, ambulance, police and emergency dispatching services on the reservation, Gov. William Nicholas said. So paying the county might not make sense.
“What services are we getting for that money?” Nicholas told The Bangor Daily News. “That is what we want to know.”
The Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point, however, depends on county services and is not questioning the tax payment.
A total of $27,000 over the past five years is reportedly being disputed.
