An elder of the Washoe Tribe says the federal government should return Lake Washoe to the tribe.
The lake lies in California and in Nevada and most of the shore is managed by the U.S. Forest Service. Charles Walker Sr. says the time has come for the rightful owners to reclaim it.
"This day is coming," Walker said at event featuring Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nevada), the Senate majority leader, Sen. John Ensign (R-Nevada) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California), The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
Walker made his comments before delivering a prayer at the event. He is the father of Chairman Waldo Walker.
