Two dozen people have filed a lawsuit alleging widespread abuse by priests and nuns at a former Indian orphanage in South Dakota.
The Tekakwitha Orphanage for Native American was located in Sisseton. Former residents say they were subject to physical, mental and sexual abuse from the 1940s through the 1970s.
We lived in that hell for over five years," Mary Jane Wanna Drum, a plaintiff in the lawsuit, told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader.
Defendants include the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls, the Sisters of the Divine Savior and the Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
