"In September 2004, organizers of the opening ceremony for the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., called on a well-known Native actor to help kick off the museum with some blues music.
Gary Farmer was happy to oblige.
"I have no idea why they asked me," the Cayuga tribal member said, demonstrating his signature humility.
The performance sparked Farmer's decision to form a blues band and tour the country. On Tuesday, Gary Farmer and the Troublemakers will bring their blues repertoire to Lincoln.
Before their Bourbon Theatre performance at 9 p.m., the theater and the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center will present a screening of "Dead Man," which features one of Farmer's most famous roles.
Alongside Johnny Depp, Farmer plays "Nobody," an enigmatic, mystical Native who helps a city slicker turned gunfighter (Depp) survive the Northwestern wilderness."
