"Delores Skenandore, 18, claimed the crown as 2010-11 Miss Oneida at the 43rd annual Miss and Junior Miss Oneida Pageant held recently at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center in Ashwaubenon.
Running on the platform of language preservation, she said, "It's said that the language could be gone if our generation doesn't pick it up. I love my culture, tribe and people — I just want to continue that for the next seven generations and beyond that."
The daughter of Raeann Skenandore and Chaz Wheelock, Delores attends the University of Wisconsin-Richland and enjoys working, softball and spending time with friends.
Winning the title of 2010-11 Junior Miss Oneida was Olivia Webster, 14. A former Lil' Miss Oneida, she attends Pulaski High School and enjoys spending time with her pets and swimming. In her new role, she wants to be a role model for kids and looks forward to meeting new people and discovering more about her culture and language. She is the daughter of Don and Jenny Webster.
