US Attorney objects to lawsuit against BIA officers in Yankton court
The U.S. Attorney's Office in South Dakota says a member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe should not be able to sue Bureau of Indian Affairs police officers. in tribal court.

Gail Hubbeling sued two officers following an arrest on the reservation. She said the officers violated her free speech rights and civil rights.

Federal prosecutors say Hubbeling should have filed her suit in federal court. They say the tribal court doesn't have jurisdiction over the officers.

The judge in tribal court has agreed to put off the case until a lawsuit in federal court can be resolved.
