Disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff is earning between $7.50 and $10 an hour at his new job at Tov Pizza, a kosher pizza
restaurant in Maryland, The New York Times reports.
Abramoff started work on Monday as part of his transition back to society. He's helping the restaurant with office work and is not dealing directly with customers.
"He is not the monster he has been portrayed as," owner Ron Rosenbluth told the Times.
Abramoff served less than four years of his prison sentence. He admitted to bank fraud and to defrauding tribal clients in what was the largest scandal in Washington, D.C., in decades.
“People ask me, ‘Why would you ever hire Jack Abramoff?’ ” Rosenbluth told the paper. “I say, ‘Why wouldn’t I hire Jack Abramoff?’ He’s paying his debt to society, right?”
