The Tulalip Tribes of Washington are well on their way to 100 percent participation on the 2010 Census.

So far, 93 percent of households on the reservation have returned their forms. “We’re shooting for 100 percent,” a spokeswoman for the U.S. Census Bureau told The Everett Herald.

In 2000, only 54 percent participated in the Census. The low response rate affected the tribe's federal funding.

“The census information has always been an impediment to us really being able to tell our story,” said tribal member Steve Gobin, the paper reported. “We’re going to get a much better picture of where we’re at today to help us plan our future.”
