Rep. Tom Cole (R-Oklahoma), a member of the Chickasaw Nation, is seeking a fifth term in office.
Cole is the only Native American in Congress. He has consistently supported tribes on gaming, sovereignty, land, taxation and other issues. He also supports the $3.4 billion settlement to the Indian trust fund lawsuit.
Cole sits on the House Appropriations Committee. He is a member of the subcommittee that handles the budget bill for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Office of the Special Trustee for
American Indians and the Indian Health Service.
Native Americans make up about 6 percent of the population in Cole's Fourth Congressional District.
