Oneida Nation veterans struggle decades after Vietnam War
Members of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin who served in the Vietnam War say they still experience trauma. When he travels, Robert Webster usually goes one way and comes back another. "My wife asks, 'What are you doing?' I say it's so we don't get ambushed," he told The Green Bay Press-Gazette. Ted Christjohn served in the Korean War and in Vietnam. "It was hard coming here, so much stress," he told the paper. "I came back and started drinking. After a few beers, no one wanted to be around you." Christjohn lost his younger brother and his cousin in Vietnam. He still suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. According to the Naval History & Heritage Command, about 42,000 American Indians and Alaska Natives served in Vietnam. About 90 percent signed up voluntarily. Get the Story:
