The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Michigan used $5.1 million in stimulus funds to improve housing on the reservation.
The tribe used the money from the American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act of 2009 for energy efficient renovations at existing rental units. Some of the homes are 30 years old and were overdue for repairs.
Chairman Joe McCoy said the stimulus money created 46 local jobs.
