County sheriff continues outreach with California tribes
The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is continuing its outreach with tribes in southern California. The Morongo Band of Mission Indians is hosting the sixth meeting. The tribes are learning more about law enforcement work. "More and more, families are seeing the good police can do. It's better having the presence of a friendly face reaching out." said Ernest Siva, the cultural adviser and historian for the Morongo Band, The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported. The sheriff stepped up its efforts after the fatal police shootings of three members of the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians. The department hopes to hire more Native American officers. Get the Story:
