The sheriff in Isabella County, Michigan, is asking the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe for money to help cover the cost of mental health care for inmates.
Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski used to rely on the state Community Mental Health program. But he said the program doesn't have enough money to pay the bill anymore.
The tribe received the sheriff's request, a spokesperson said. The tribe shares 2 percent of gaming revenues with local governments twice a year.
