Former Pequot leader wins award from law student group
Kenneth Reels, a former chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut, received the Thurgood Marshall Award from Quinnipiac University’s Black Law Student Association. Reels was selected as someone who exemplifies the values of equality and civil rights for which former Supreme Court justice Thurgood Marshall fought, the association said in a news release. Past recipients include Hillary Clinton and Bill Cosby. Reels served on the tribal council from 1991 to 2008 and served as chairman and vice chairman. He currently serves as vice chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Gaming Commission. Get the Story:
