A land swap that would pave the way for a new museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, requires consultation with three Delaware tribes.
The National Park Service has agreed to give up 0.87 acres in Independence National Historical Park in downtown Philadelphia. In exchange, the National Center for the American Revolution will transfer 78 acres in Valley Forge National Historical Park to the federal government.
The exchange includes provisions to address ancestors and artifacts that might be uncovered during construction of the museum at the 0.87-acre site. The Delaware Tribe of Oklahoma, the Delaware Nation of Oklahoma and the Stockbridge-Munsee Community of Wisconsin will be consulted about archeological resources.
The Delaware people lived along the East Coast until they were removed to Oklahoma and Wisconsin.
