Marshall Plummer, the first person to serve as vice president of the Navajo Nation, died last week. He was 62.

Plummer served under former president Peterson Zah from 1991 to 1994. He was also a delegate to the Navajo Nation Council.

"He was very active in the community, working with leadership and kids on the Nation and in Farmington," GloJean Todacheene, a council delegate, told The Farmington Daily Times . "He wanted his Diné people to rise above poverty and he built bridges between the communities. We lost a good leader."

Plummer fought in the Vietnam war.
