The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi
Indians of Michigan will elect a new chairperson on April 24.
Laura Spurr was serving as chair until her death on February 19 at the age of 64. Vice chair Homer Mandoka will be handling the duties of chair until a replacement is chosen.
In related news, the tribe announced Aaron Payment as its new executive director. Payment is a former chairman of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Michigan.
“We are very pleased to have Aaron Payment join our team,“ Mandoka said in a press release. “Payment brings with him experience, background and leadership, which will help provide guidance for the Tribal Council as the Tribe continues to grow and as we strengthen our programs and services for Tribal members.”
