Tribe announced plans to build a nursing home in Nebraska.
President Theresa Two Bulls said work could start this spring once a design is approved and financing is secured. She said the facility would house 60 to 70 residents.
“It’s a positive reality coming to light,” said Two Bulls, The Rapid City Journal reported.
The Pine Ridge Reservation is primarily located in South Dakota, where state law has prevented tribes from opening their own nursing facilities due to concerns about Medicaid costs.
But the reservation extends into Nebraska, where no limitations exist.
“We will be proceeding on having the nursing home in Nebraska, since we are ahead on the Nebraska site,” Two Bulls said, the Journal reported.
