The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians donated $250,000 towards the design and construction of a Native veterans monument at Riverside National Cemetery in southern California.
The monument will be the first of its kind in the nation. It has received funds from the San Manuel Band and the Morongo Band of Mission Indians.
“San Manuel has made this contribution in gratitude for the sacrifice of Native American veterans to defend their country and native homelands,” said San Manuel Chairman James Ramos in a press release. “This monument honors a tradition of service among Indian people that began before the founding of this country and will continue into its future.”
