Ziebach County on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in South Dakota is the poorest in the nation, the U.S. Census Bureau reported.
In Ziebach County, 62 percent of residents live in poverty. "It's a pretty harsh thing to have to digest," Julie Garreau, the director of the Cheyenne River Youth Project, told The Rapid City Journal.
Shannon County on the Pine Ridge Reservation was third on the list. Counties on several other reservations also made the top 10 list.
