Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota) will deliver his farewell speech on the Senate floor on Thursday.
Dorgan has served as chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee since January 2007.
In that time, he helped pass two landmark bills -- the Indian
Health Care Improvement Act and the Tribal
Law and Order Act -- and pushed for the settlement in the Indian trust fund lawsuit, which is being signed into law today.
Dorgan is retiring after more than 30 years in federal service. He plans to reflect on his career, and talk about some future challenges, in his farewell speech.
The speech is expected to take place around 2pm. The Senate session will be broadcast by C-SPAN2.
