The Interior Board of Indian Appeals rejected a challenge to the the Meskwaki Tribe's
land-into-trust application.
The board of supervisors in Tama County, Iowa, didn't want to lose tax revenues on the tribe's trust land. But the IBIA said the county failed to make its case.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs has agreed to acquire 257 acres in trust for the tribe. The land provided about $7,000 in tax revenues to the county.
"It's not the tribe we have a problem with; it's the government," supervisor Dan Wilkens told The Marshalltown Times Republican.
