In August, the Oneida Nation of New York announced a move of its cigarette manufacturing plant to the reservation but local leaders say they are still in the dark about the plan.
The Sovereign Tobacco plant is being relocated to trust land in the city of Oneida. Mayor Leo Matzke said the tribe hasn't started manufacturing cigarettes but other leaders are concerned.
“We’re running the show, not them,” city council member Dan Jones said at a public meeting, The Oneida Dispatch reported.
The tribe was expected to answer questions about the plan at the meeting but didn't attend.
