The South Dakota Republican Party has filed a complaint against the Democratic Party for hosting meals on reservations.
Attorney General Marty Jackley said he is investigating the complaint. At issue is whether Democrats offered food for votes on the Pine Ridge
Reservation, the Lower Brule
Sioux Reservation and the Crow Creek Sioux
Reservation.
"To be a good leader, you have to feed people," State Rep. Kevin Killer (D), who helped organize a rally at Pine Ridge, told The Sioux Falls Argus Leader. Natives have been doing politics since the beginning of time. It's just part of our cultural norm."
The meals were held as early voting began in South Dakota.
