A federal judge heard arguments in a voting rights lawsuit filed by the Spirit Lake Dakotah
Nation of North Dakota.
The tribe filed the suit after Benson County decided to close all polling sites on the reservation. The tribe says the move will disenfranchise Indian voters.
Judge Ralph Erickson heard the case on Tuesday. He is likely to decide on the tribe's request for an injunction by the end of the week, The Grand Forks Herald reported.
The tribe has offered to pay the costs of maintaining a polling site on the reservation but the county refused the offer.
