The at First Alaskans Institute kicked off the annual Elders and Youth Conference on Monday.
Thousands of elders and youth from across Alaska are attending the event. They heard from keynote speaker Eliza Jones, who urged participants to work together to preserve Native languages.
The conference runs through Wednesday. It can be viewed live at www.firstalaskans.org.
After the conference ends, the Alaska Federation of Natives will begin its annual convention in Fairbanks.
