A man convicted of the murder of five-year-old Phoenix Sinclair is still trying to appeal his case.
Karl McKay, Sinclair's stepfather, was found guilty of first-degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison for beating Sinclair and burying her on the Fisher River First Nation in Manitoba.
The government plans an inquiry into Sinclair's death and the role of child service agencies. The inquiry won't begin until McKay completes the appeals process.
Phoenix's mother, Samantha Kematch, was also convicted of murder .She is serving a life sentence.
