Brandon Sazue, the former chairman of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe, is running for the South Dakota District 21 Senate seat.
Sazue, a Democrat, joined the race after the prior candidate withdrew. He will face incumbent Sen. Cooper Garnos, a Republican.
“He is dedicated to getting out and hearing the concerns of District 21,” Erin McCarrick of the state Democratic Party told The Mitchell Daily Republic. “He is excited to campaign and bring issues that are important to him to the district.”
District 21 includes the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe, the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe and the Yankton Sioux Tribe.
