The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes began impeachment proceedings against Gov. Janice Boswell on Thursday.
Boswell is accused of 12 counts of violating the tribal constitution. Among other charges, she allegedly failed to submit a budget on time, signed contracts without authorization of the tribal council and removed people from their positions, The Oklahoman reported.
"I feel like I am doing the best job I can do,” Boswell said on the witness stand, the paper reported.
The tribal council is conducting the impeachment hearing. Members said Boswell has not operated in a transparent manner and even one questioned whether women should hold leadership positions.
