Department of Commerce Secretary Gary Locke spoke at the 2010 Reservation Economic Summit in Las Vegas on Monday.
Locke told attendees that tribes will be included in the jobs bill under consideration in Congress. "The First Americans will not be the last Americans in our economic recovery,” he said, Indian Country Today reported.
The Senate passed its version of H.R.2847 on Wednesday. Tribes prefer the version that originated in the House because it provides more direct supporrt, Karen Atkinson, the president of Tribal Strategies Inc., told ICT.
