The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota has raised about $400,000 to help its members recover from a severe winter storm.

About 14,000 people on the reservation lost power and water last month. But help was slow to arrive until MSNBC pundit Keith Olbermann brought up the issue on his show and viewers responded with pledges.

The tribe hopes the response will help Congress approve a water system upgrade. Chairman Joseph Brings Plenty said the project lacks support in Washington, D.C.
