Aryln Ackley, the chairman of the Sokaogon Chippewa Community of Wisconsin, has been hospitalized.
Ackley, 59, was involved in a serious accident over the weekend, News of the North reported. He was listed in serious condition and was in the intensive care unit of the Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Ackley is due to appear in court on a drunk-driving and felony narcotics possession charges. He has been charged with DUI on four prior occasions, according to News of the North. He has served prison time on drug and corruption charges.
