The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York has yet to break ground on a senior housing project but all of the units are already filled.
The tribe will add 20 units to the Sunrise Acres Elderly Complex. The project will double the size of the facility but there's still not enough space for everyone.
"We have a waiting list of seniors so we expect to be at full capacity," Retha M. Herne, the executive director of the Housing Authority, told The Watertown Daily Times. "There has been an increase in elderly population and it's going to increase from here. All the statistics show it's only going to increase over the next five to 10 years."
The tribe secured $6.5 million in federal grants for the project.
