The board of supervisors in Tama County, Iowa, is appealing the Meskwaki Tribe's latest land-into-trust application.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs has reportedly agreed to acquire 258 acres in trust for the tribe. Supervisors say they are tired of losing tax revenues.
"We are not opposed to the tribe purchasing land," supervisor Larry Vest said at a meeting, The Marshalltown Republican reported. . "What we are opposed to is taking it into tribal trust
Supervisors say they are losing out on about $80,000 a year as a result of the tribe's acquisitions.
