Members of the Southern
Ute Tribe of Colorado met on Thursday to discuss a potential recall of Chairman Matthew Box.
Organizers James Jefferson, Orville Hood and Kevin Frost are concerned about the Southern Ute Indian Tribe Growth
Fund. They say Box hasn't paid more attention to the fund, which they contend is losing money.
“We have uneducated leaders who can no longer make rational decisions about sophisticated financial affairs," Frost said at the meeting, The Durango Herald reported. “We need to put past differences aside; this is about survival."
The tribe is a major player in the energy development industry and The Growth Fund was established to manage the tribe's business activities. Governmental operations and services are funded by a different fund.
