The Ho-Chunk Nation has agreed to pay counties in Wisconsin $1,000 per every acre of trust land.
The tribe has trust land in 12 counties. The largest chunk is 1,200 acres in Vernon County, folowed by 472 acres in Jackson County.
Each county would receive the money every year as part of an intergovernmental agreement. Previously, the money went directly to the state.
The money would have to be used in a way that benefits the tribe.
