Rep. Maxine Waters (D-California) and Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-Arizona) will travel to the Navajo Nation for a field hearing on Indian housing and Indian veteran issues on Saturday, April 10.
The hearing takes place at 11:30am at the Navajo Nation Museum in Window Rock, Arizona.
Witnesses will address housing challenges facing Indian families and disabled Indian veterans.
Kirkpatrick, who was born and raised on the White Mountain Apache Nation, has introduced H.R.3553, the Indian Veterans Housing Opportunity Act of 2009. The bill would ensure that Indian veterans who receive federal disability and survivor benefits are not denied support under the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act.
After the hearing, Watson and Kirkpatrick will head to Fort Defiance, Arizona, to tour a Navajo Housing Authority project.
Watson serves as chairwoman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity.
