Pojoaque Pueblo and the state of New Mexico appear to be headed towards resolution of a property tax dispute.
The tribe bought the 139-acre La
Mesita Ranch in 2008. The land is within the pueblo's original land grant but is not held in trust and the tribe isn't interested in following the land-into-trust process.
The Santa Fe County
Assessor's Office has asked the state for direction on the issue. Officials hope to announce a resolution soon.
Without an exemption, the tribe faces a tax bill of $14,700 a year. The ranch has been valued at more than $6 million.
