President Barack Obama signed an executive order on Tuesday to take aim at childhood obesity.
The task force will be headed by First Lady Michelle Obama and will include the Interior Department. The agencies will come up with a plan to recommend ways to ensure access to healthy, affordable food; increase physical activity in schools and communities; provide healthier food in schools; and offer more information to parents.
About 48,000 American Indian and Alaska Native students attend Bureau of Indian Education schools.
According to the National Academy of Sciences, Native children are twice as likely to obese than their counterparts.
