A council member for the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Montana resigned in protest of President John Sinclair.
John LaSalle said Sinclair has turned the tribe into the "laughingstock" of Indian Country. In a resignation letter, he accused Sinclair of "running the tribe from behind closed doors."
Sinclair said LaSalle is part of a group that opposes his leadership. He said LaSalle was close to being removed from the tribal council for failing to attend meetings.
The tribe is recognized by the state but has been denied federal recognition by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
