Two tribes, one in South Dakota and another in Wisconsin, are looking to develop plants that will convert waste into energy.
The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe signed a memorandum of understanding with EcoTech Fuels to host a $39 million fuel production plant on the reservation. The tribe would receive a share of the profits from any fuel sold.
In Wisconsin, the Oneida Nation is pursuing a similar project. The tribe's Seven Generations Corp. wants to take waste from Brown County and convert it into energy.
