Joe Grayson, the deputy principal chief of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, won't run for another term.
Grayson was first elected to the post in 2003 and was re-elected in 2007. He will serve the remainder of his term and has endorsed Chris Soap, a council member, for the position.
Principal Chief Chad Smith will be running for re-election. “I hope to see Chris and Chad be sworn in on Aug. 14, 2011,” Grayson wrote in an e-mail that was quoted by The Muskogee Phoenix.
