Institute of American Indian Arts welcomes visitors

The Institute of American Indian Arts in New Mexico wants more people to know about its mission and campus.

IAIA, which is chartered by Congress, offers degrees in creative writing, museum studies, studio arts, new-media arts and indigenous liberal studies. And it's not only for American Indian and Alaska Native students -- enrollment is open to all.

"Our two main challenges are getting past the perception that we are a school only for Native students, and that IAIA is just an arts school," recruiter Undrell Person told The Santa Fe New Mexican. "We now have five programs, and other classes that have practical applications in today's job market."

IAIA, whose campus is just outside Santa Fe, is hosting an open house this Friday to show off new buildings. Lunch will be provided.
