10th Circuit hears arguments over status of Osage land
The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals is hearing arguments today in a case that will essentially determine whether the Osage Reservation still exists.

Citing an act of Congress and actions by federal agencies, the tribe says all of Osage County is its reservation. That would mean tribal members who live in the county and work for the tribe are exempt from state taxes.

Judge James Payne disagreed and ruled against the tribe last year. The tribe appealed to the 10th Circuit and the case has drawn a significant number of briefs from groups in Oklahoma that say the county shouldn't be considered a reservation.
