An 11-year-old boy who was in foster care died in a house fire on the Shamattawa First Nation in Manitoba last weekend.
The boy's death is being treated as an arson-related homicide. The RCMP took a 16-year-old boy from the reserve into custody but no charges have been laid in connection with the incident.
The boy was apparently visiting his grandparents, whose home was destroyed in the fire. But it's not clear whether anyone knew he was in the house and he wasn't reported missing until after the fire.
"What had happened, it's our responsibility, it's my responsibility," David Harper, the grand chief of the Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak told CBC News.
