Indian lawmaker denies striking colleague in arm

New Mexico State Rep. Sandra Jeff (D), a member of the Navajo Nation, did not hit a colleague "in any way, shape or form," her attorney told The Albuquerque Journal.

Jett's attorney says Rep. Patty Lundstrom (D) is not telling the truth about an incident following a meeting of the Legislature's Indian Affairs Committee. The attorney says Lundstrom should be investigated for filing a false police report.

New Mexico State Police interviewed Lundstrom about the December 4 incident. She claims Jett called her a "slimy snake" and a "liar" and said she was punched three times in the arm.

The pair were apparently discussing uranium issues on Indian lands before the incident. Lundstrom has filed an ethics complaint against Jett.
