The House Natural
Resources Committee will meet in an open markup session on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, to consider several bills.
H.R.
725, the Indian Arts and Crafts Amendments Act of 2009, is on the agenda.
The bill strengthens the Indian
Arts and Crafts Act of 1990 by authorizing "any" federal law enforcement
officer to investigate suspected violations of the law.
The committee held a hearing on the bill on December 2. Indian artisans said counterfeit goods are hurting the $1 billion Indian art market.
The markup takes place at 10am in Room 1324 of the Longworth House Office Building.
