A group that is seeking to rewrite the California constitution wants tribes included in the process.
Repair California proposed two ballot initiatives. One would give voters the right to call a constitutional convention and the other would define how the convention would work.
The group wants 450 delegates appointed to the convention. Of those, four would represent tribes.
"Indian Tribe delegates shall not be
chosen on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin, but rather shall serve as
representatives of the federally recognized Indian Tribes in the State," Proposition 2 states.
Supporters hope to gather enough signatures to put the initiatives on the 2010 ballot.
