A woman from the Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation of North Dakota was sentenced to 6.5 years in federal prison for stabbing her boyfriend to death.
Rebecca Brown, 49, was sentenced on a voluntary manslaughter charge. The U.S. Attorney's Office in North Dakota said she stabbed Derek Longie, 36, in the chest in January.
Brown was ordered to pay for $6,500 to the Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation, and about $2,000 to Longie’s mother, to cover funeral expenses.
