A residential treatment center in Oregon is working closely with the Native community as it provides services to Native youth.

ChristieCare formed an advisory board that meets monthly. The board includes the Native American Youth Authority, the Native American Rehabilitation Association, the National Indian Child Welfare Association and representatives of Oregon's tribes.

ChristieCare also hired Sande Bea Allman, a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, as a cultural liaison for the Cedar Bough center. She helps the staff understand Native culture.

"I've known for years this service was needed," Allman told The Oregonian of the center. "They really need help, both psychological and social."

Since it opened a year ago, Cedar Bough has treated more than 60 Native youth.
